TORONTO -- WestJet will expand service from Toronto in April as planned, despite an judge's ruling that blocks it from using Pearson International's new Terminal 1, the Calgary airline said yesterday. Monday's ruling by Ontario Superior Court Justice James Farley backed Air Canada's bid to prevent the Greater Toronto Airports Authority from assigning some of Terminal 1's landing gates to WestJet.

WestJet chief executive Clive Beddoe said yesterday his airline had been assured by the GTAA "we will have the necessary facilities available to us in order to operate our recently announced expanded schedule.

"We do believe, however, that there are a number of findings in Justice Farley's decision that could form the basis of an appeal by the GTAA," Beddoe said.
