Ontario Finance Minister Greg Sorbara says he will lay out a "prudent" fiscal path in his budget tomorrow despite the new federal dollars expected to flood the provincial treasury.

"(Federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty) had the luxury of writing an expansive budget," Sorbara said yesterday. "We have to be very prudent. We are still working our way out of the problems that we inherited so we don't have the luxury of the kind of resources that are pouring into the federal treasury."

Conservative Leader John Tory said the Liberals have increased spending by about $20 billion since taking office and likely won't be able to resist a big budget blowout before facing voters in a fall provincial election.

"I think it's going to be an all-you-can-eat spending buffet," he said.

The Stephen Harper budget, which was delivered Monday, provides significant new transfers to Ontario.

Sorbara said his ministry is still working out the numbers to determine the impact on the province's bottom line, but has acknowledged the feds have gone a long way in addressing Ontario's concern that it was being treated unfairly compared to other provinces. Source...
