The Hamilton Chamber of Commerce has issued a call to action for city politicians to support the 2015 Pan Am Games bid.
Chamber president Tyler MacLeod, a member of the mayor's community bid committee, is urging residents to e-mail city politicians and staff so they support the bid in the days ahead.
His goal is to have city council vote Feb. 23 in favour of Hamilton's place in the bid, which promises to bring the city a new stadium and potentially a new pool and portable velodrome for cycling. MacLeod's "back-the-bid" push came the same week as former Ontario premier and bid chair David Peterson visited the chamber, and urged the "silent majority" to voice their support for the games. The bid has been contentious, with critics saying Hamilton has pressing concerns, such as infrastructure or anti-poverty measures.
MacLeod says the games will generate tax revenue to help City Hall hold the line on tax increases.
